I am a horror writer by nature. Some of my fondest memories are of watching the classics on Shock Theater…Dracula, The Wolf Man, Creature From The Black Lagoon. I moved on to reading Vampirella comics and Bram Stoker’s Dracula. From there I found The Omen and then Stephen King. I began spinning my own stories on the playground as early as second or third grade, frightening all of the kids with my ghosts, vampires, and various creatures of the night. This got me into a good deal of hot water with teachers and neighborhood moms, but I wasn’t one to be thwarted. I began creating more elaborate tales in high school, earning the respect of an attentive, if slightly uncomfortable, English teacher.
When I found the internet receptive to my desires, I began a ten year long series of tales based on a vampiress, whose bloodlust resembles nothing of today’s Edwards or Bellas or any other glittery, shiny thing. My work just does not bleed that way. My characters are gritty and hungry. I’ve managed to gain a decent following (and my fair share of haters) of my work.
I decided to expand my horizons and pursue seriously educating myself in the art of writing for profit. I continue to take classes to perfect my work, and learn from professionals. I am now producing short stories and flash fiction in the hopes of fulfilling a lifelong dream. This is what I am meant to do…to create creatures and works that spook the soul, and leave my readers with the sense that things really do go bump in the night. And those things want to eat you, or at least maim you, or leave you forever changed.
